Real undercover boss

12 May 2020 We also deliver our packaging every Saturday, but nowadays you can get the packaging from a very special driver on Saturday. Dick Schep has had his truck driving license since December 2019 and now also works as a driver at De Jong Verpakking. During the week he is busy with completely different things as director of production and logistics, but during the weekend he drives one of the DAFs in Westmaas.

The colleagues who see him for the first time in this position are especially surprised and curious about what is going on. When he says that he is doing this, because it is a very nice profession and always wanted to be a truck driver, everyone reacts very positively. The fact that a director does exactly this work also gives him great respect. His father always drove a truck and Dick often went along as a small child. One of his customers was the horticulturist Henk de Jong, so that’s how it all started a long time ago. Last year he got his first driving lesson from his girlfriend and after passing all the exams the first time, he had his driving license in a few months.

He also likes that variety of work. During the week it is a lot of office work and there are many appointments, but on Saturday it really is a hobby. Dick: “As a director, it is of course good to see the other side of the work. I now really see all the boxes that come from our factory. I also visit many different customers; I have been with fishermen in Urk, egg customers in Germany and various gardeners and growers here in the Westland region. You hear and see many things which I can use in my other job. ” Those customers then have no idea who I am, so you get nice stories. You also see all the good things about work, such as the beautiful new trucks, but you also see what the men and women encounter every day.

Dick will be on the truck again next Saturday, so it may just be that you meet him again in the warehouse.
