30 November 2022 On Friday 25 November, aldermen Pieter Varekamp and Ben van der Stee visited the construction site of De Jong Verpakking. Together with Arjan Droog, Leo Boeren, Ingrid Hof and Marjorie van Breda from the Municipality of Westland, they wanted to personally see how the construction work of Europe's largest corrugated cardboard factory is progressing.
Owner Henk de Jong, Dick Schep and Henkjan Berendsen from De Jong Packaging were present. WDP was represented by project developer Dick Hootsen. After the aldermen and civil servants of the Municipality of Westland were informed of the current status, they were given a tour of the construction site.
Expansion of cardboard factory
The building will be realized next to the current building of De Jong Verpakking in the Westerlee industrial area in De Lier. Demolition work started in September 2020, after which the ground was made ready for construction. The first pile was driven in June 2021 and the work will be completed early next year. Henk de Jong, owner of De Jong Verpakking: “We have been talking to the municipality for some time now. It is very good to be able to show them the status of the work live now.”
A production location with a floor area of almost 100,000 m2 is being built on a floor area of approximately 50,000 m2. Due to the limited available land in the municipality, it was decided to build a shipping hall and parking deck for trucks above the production floor.
