Brexit update

9 November 2020 The transition period for the Brexit is ending on 31 December 2020. Because we still don’t know if the UK is leaving with our without a deal, we have to prepare for the option, known as a “no-deal Brexit”. With this update we would like to help you preparing the last bit, if you didn’t do so before. We will explain what we have done as De Jong Verpakking as well to prepare.

What will change with the supply of your packaging?

  • Both parties need to arrange more paper work than in the current situation.
  • Transport could take longer, because of customs clearance.
  • You have to make customs declarations.
  • Tariff codes for importing corrugated board remain uncertain and depends on UK government.

What do you have to do before 31 December 2020?

Get your EORI number if you don’t already have one.

  • Think about customs declarations. Do you want to do it yourself or do you want to use an agent for this? Without customs declarations the load will be blocked in ports. We can bring you in contact with our agent who can do this for you.
  • You will need a commodity code for corrugated boxes; it is 4819100000.
  • Order enough stock in your own warehouse, because of a shortage of transport in the last weeks before Brexit.
  • Order enough stock, because of disruptions in the first period after Brexit.

What did De Jong Verpakking do to prepare?

We have our EORI number; NL807499390.

  • We will ship goods using Incoterms DAP (Delivered At Place). This means you have to organize import declarations in the UK.
  • We are working with different agents to organize export declarations, depending on the haulier. They also can organize import declarations on the UK side.
  • The pallets transported between EU and UK have to be Heat Treated conform ISPM 15. All our pallets used for export to the UK will be conform ISPM 15. Because of this legal requirements we don’t accept return pallets.

This letter won’t be comprehensive and all information could change over time, because of discussions between UK and EU. For many businesses and industries there are special regulations. Please visit www.gov.uk/business-uk-leaving-eu for more info.
