Jonas and legumes
In the middle of the “Hoeksche Waard” the family business runs for more than 60 years. The company started in the potato business and followed the market developments. After a while it started to supply the supermarkets in the region, where they started with the legumes as well. The company kept growing and is repacking about 500 containers per year now.
At the moment Jonas delivers 100,000 consumer units per day. A major part is being delivered in The Netherlands, but 30% is being delivered to other countries in Europe. Jonas delivers the products the products as private label, A label or the Jonas brand. They offer a wide variation in products, where the production facility is perfectly suited for. If you walk through the production facility you can see the high level of automation. Out of big bags they fill up the consumer units automatically. The small consumer units ‘fly’ with high speed over the production lines and are packed in corrugated boxes.
In the past most of the consumer units were packed in plastic and transported to the supermarket, but because of the awareness in sustainability Jonas changed more packaging into corrugated. The biggest part is being packed in corrugated boxes, delivered by De Jong Packaging. Jan-Willem Jonas explains: “At De Jong Packaging they always can deliver very fast, and without extra costs. The standard for Fefco 0201 boxes is a week, but the erected trays are delivered the next day.” Other positive items about the cooperation between Jonas and De Jong are the good contacts with the office and competitive prices for strong corrugated boxes. The sustainable image of corrugated is that the box can be compressed after use and needs less space than plastics in return loads. The well working Dutch recycling system makes sure all boxes are recycled, so we don’t loose any resources.
