To prevent boxes with your products from falling over, it is important to stack boxes correctly on a pallet. In this blog we give a number of tips for the correct transport of stackable cardboard boxes.
Transporting stackable cardboard boxes
A large part of the boxes that are transported in Europe are on a pallet. Full trucks drive on our roads with filled boxes. Almost all trucks are filled with pallets. This is an easy way to load and unload the trucks. Boxes are stacked on the pallets, so that the most efficient loading can be achieved. It is a shame to transport empty air. Stackable corrugated boxes are perfect for this.
What are stackable cardboard boxes?
Stackable cardboard boxes come in many shapes and sizes. You can stack almost any cardboard box, but how high and how much weight it can have is different for every stackable cardboard box. Of course, the strength of the corrugated cardboard is important, but the way in which you stack the packaging is also very important. Below we explain what you should take into account.
How do I stack boxes on a pallet?
Stackable cardboard boxes can be stacked in many ways. That depends on the construction. For example, many cardboard boxes for fresh produce are made in such a way that the corners fit together. This way they hook into each other and stay exactly on top of each other. Because the corners are also folded in a special way, you get a column here. These columns are extremely strong and can therefore carry a few hundred kilos. The stackable containers for fresh produce are also made in such a way that they fit exactly on a pallet. With their practical bottom size of 60x40cm or 40x30cm, they fit very efficiently on a Euro pallet of 80x120cm or an industrial pallet of 100x120cm. All space on a pallet is then used. It is also important that these corners rest on a wooden plank of the pallet. The columns need a solid foundation and cannot remain suspended on air. By stacking cardboard boxes in this way, you can easily stack the boxes up to truck height.
Stackable Boxes in Industry
Many folding boxes are used in the industrial market. These FEFCO 0201 boxes have a different construction, but these boxes are also easy to stack. The idea remains the same as with the fresh produce trays. The corners will act as columns and provide a strong construction. It is therefore important to stack the cardboard boxes straight above each other. You often see boxes stacked in the shape of a brick wall. However, this is not the strongest way. The corner column then sinks onto the box below. It is better to place the corners one above the other. It is therefore important to place the bottom point on a wooden board. If it hangs in the air, it has nothing to lean on. The box will then collapse.
What if my boxes are not stacked?
Not all boxes are stacked neatly. If your package is sent with a delivery service, the boxes will be stacked, but you cannot influence this. So it is important to keep in mind that you use a good strong shipping box here, so that when it comes to the bottom of the stack of boxes, it will not collapse. Good fit-to-size packaging is also very important. Be careful not to pack air as it is not strong and will dent.
